Welcome to my Fifth Captain's Chat of 2023. May has not been as hectic as April on the golfing front, but we did have a great turn out for the Past Captains Day on the 21st May represented by some 10 Past Captains on the day and a further three Past Captains who put teams in to represent them.
Congratulations to Ivor Newlands Past Captains team represented by Ivor and Carol, Sam and Paul Tobin for a great win, there were 6 teams with scores of 91 a very competitive competition, well done team Newland who made that score look small and are continuing to shine in the results through May.
Captains Birthday Charity Day raised €450.00, my thanks to all of you who competed in the PInsplitter with Jim Reid and George Beattie winning with 50 points.
Social Events and Competitions
10th - 11th June Club Championship, sheets are up, players who did not wish to enter the Championship have the option to play on Sunday 11th in a yellow tee Stableford qualifier. The competition will start at 10 and all tee times will before the commencement of Day 2 of the Championship. It would be great to see you there.
25th June Members Charity Day with a twist, the competition is a 'Royal Flush' shotgun start, dinner and dancing in the evening so you have plenty of time to go home and get your glad rags on, details are up on the Board, everyone playing Members Day are assumed to be attending the Glitter Ball dinner and dance. There is a sign-up sheet for non-playing members and guests.
Please advise if you can't make the Glitter Ball evening.
The competition details below:
Royal Flush
A team event of 4 with each player playing their own single Stapleford game.
After each hole is completed, the team opens the envelope left at the side of the green to reveal a playing card that determines what scores count on that hole :
Jack - the best 2 scores to count.
Queen - the best 3 scores to count.
King - all four scores to count.
Joker - NO scores count
At the end just add up all your scores!
Remember (1) not to give away what card is in the envelope to other teams around you…… it will only help them and (2) put the card back in the envelope and pin it down for the next group.
21st July
We want to make the summer months FUN so Brigette and Janice are organising a Noughties Golf Day and Night, come and join in the festivities. Details have been sent out or will follow shortly.
Charity Update:
We have raised over €6000.00 so far this year, which is fantastic, thank you all.
The Charities we are supporting this year will be NECI due to our continued and welcome relationship with Baptista and separately Madrugada. Your continued support on Charity Days is greatly appreciated.
Single and Pairs Knock out competitions:
Those players who are late have been contacted and all games should be completed by 7th June otherwise I'm afraid it will be the toss of a coin. Good luck in your games and please avoid the coin.
Race to Budens
Janice and Ian Galloway continue to keep a lead but are now being hotly pursued by Duncan Leopold and Gary Dowie, come on everyone let's give Janice and Ian a challenge.
