Welcome to my Seventh Captain's Chat of 2023. July has been a hot and windy month without too much to report on the golfing front.
Noughties Evening
In celebration of quite a few birthdays this year, we had a great fun day and night on the 21st July with Michael Abbott and George Ralph winning in style followed by an evening dinner and disco attended by some 60 members and guests. Our thanks to Brigitte Beck and Janice Galloway for organising.
Dates for your diary
Sunday 6th August is the Pepe Gancedo Trophy in honour of our course Architect. It's a shotgun start so please make sure you are in plenty of time to check in, this is followed by a BBQ lunch.
Saturday 16th September is Captains Day. A singles stableford followed by a dinner and dance. I look forward to welcoming you all for what I hope will be good fun with plenty of craic, guests are very welcome. The sign up sheet will be going up shortly.
Autumn Festival 22nd to 27th September
A WhatSapp has gone out with all the details for the festival and booking forms are in the shop.
Charity Update:
The Charities we are supporting this year will be NECI due to our continued and welcome relationship with Baptista and separately Madrugada. Your continued support on Charity Days is greatly appreciated. Our collection is coming along nicely.
Single and Pairs Knock out competitions:
Many thanks to everyone for getting their matches either played or in their diary to be completed. Can we please ensure that we have reached the semi-final stage in both the Pairs and Singles by the end of October.
Race to Budens
Janice and Ian Galloway continue to keep a lead despite taking a well-deserved holiday. Gary Dowie is moving into contention.
Interleague 2023
We managed to get some valuable away points at Vilamoura on the 12th July. Our next league match is Thursday 14th September away to Palmeras.
Change of Diary date for future notice:
Please note that Brian's over 70's competition has been moved from the 27th October to the 20th October.
Course
You will have received an email regarding our very useful meetings with GSA and the actions that have been agreed. In addition, we are now able to come off the buggy path at the Ladies tee on the 13th, a path has been cut so please ensure you come off at 90 degrees. Considering the very limited staff we have we are in a pretty good shape.
Monthly Competitions:
This link to the monthly competitions schedule lets you know what’s coming up.
Captain's Away Trip:
The Captain's Away trip to Dona Filipe playing Pinheiros Altos and San Lorenzo is on the 2nd and 3rd November. It’s all booked and the sign up sheet is on the notice board. For those who wish there is the opportunity to book an extra night on the Wednesday the cost being £160 per person.
Payment will be due by the end of August and a link will be sent out shortly.
Thanks again to our Card markers who have as always do great work. Much appreciated.
