Welcome to my Eighth Captain's Chat of 2023. August has like July been a hot and windy month with the Pepe Gancedo competition being played on the 6th of August followed by a BBQ lunch and prize giving organised by GSA. Many thanks to Rui Gloria and his team.
Congratulations to Nick Padgett on winning.
We've had a few qualifiers and hopefully you've all taken the opportunity to have your cards entered and get your handicap up to date.
Birthday Celebrations
Happy Birthdays to Paddy Noone on reaching the grand old age of 17 and also on his trip to Malawi which we hear was a great success teaching the local children and of course Macca who celebrated the grand old age of ( censored )and Ann de Jongh who reached double numbers 55 setting herself a big challenge to reach a handicap of 5.5. Wisdom has taken over and she is continuing her ambition to achieve this while 55. Best wishes to you all.
Wedding Celebrations
Our congratulations to Sam Robinson who finally tied the knot with Maria. Our best wishes to you both.
Can a moment pass without Duane being involved, Mr Effervescent! Duane and Rei's wedding took place on September 1st in the famous Little Church in the West in Vegas. We wish you every happiness.
Dates for your diary
Captains Day is looming on Saturday 16th September.
A singles stableford followed by a dinner and dance. I look forward to welcoming you all for what I hope will be good fun with plenty of craic, guests are very welcome. The sign up sheet is very very close to full so if you wish to play please check the sheet. There is a separate sheet for dinner in the evening. Please ensure you put your name down even if you're already down on the golf sheet together with your partner and or guests.
Autumn Festival 22nd to 27th September
A bit confusing this year with GSA requesting individual sign up sheets. Hopefully you've all managed to enter the competitions you wanted to. There is a big turn out and I believe on the Shotgun start days there will be 9 double tees.
Charity Update:
There will be a Charity nearest the pin on the 11th on Captains Day, your continued support is very much appreciated. The Charities we are supporting this year will be NECI due to our continued and welcome relationship with Baptista and separately Madrugada.
Single and Pairs Knock out competitions:
Many thanks to everyone for getting their matches either played or in their diary to be completed. Can we please ensure that we have reached the semi-final stage in both the Pairs and Singles by the end of October.
Race to Budens
There is no change with Janice and Ian Galloway continuing to keep the lead.
Interleague 2023
Our next league match is Thursday 14th September away to Palmeras.
Change of Diary date for future notice:
Please note that Brian's over 70s competition has been moved from the 27th October to the 20th October.
Course
The course is looking good and the Lakes have had the reeds cut creating a much cleaner and healthier environment. I'm sure you have noticed there are new roped areas to show us where to go when coming off a hole, please do use these. The 2nd hole has had the debris cleared in the ditch on the left and also the bank on the right, the bunker edges have all been strimmed, so much better. Aeration of the greens did not take place although it was the highest priority on all your lists of what feedback we should give GSA during the recent meetings that took place. This was due to limited GSA funds and therefore remain an issue and will no doubt be one that hopefully new owners will address next year, should a sale happen.
