Welcome to my 11th Captain's Chat of 2023. November has been a glorious month weather wise, lovely sunshine and balmy evenings whilst the UK was suffering some serious cold and rain, aren't we lucky! There hasn't been a lot going on except of course Captains Away
Captains Away
Both Aoife and I would like to thank all of you some 52 who made the trip to Dona Filipe playing Pinheiros Altos and San Lorenzo and made it very special for both of us.
Day 1 was won by Alan Midgley, Peter Noone, Andy Pickard and Paul Mott ---- Congratulations
and
Day 2 was won by Scott Mirren and Jo Dalling (Hidden Pairs) ----- Congratulations
We also had a non-golfers Crazy golf competition organised by Aoife which was won by Ana aka Raggy's better half!!
Vice Captain
Ian Galloway was delighted to announce his Vice Captain Carol Newland for 2024, both Ivor and Carol joined us for dinner, congratulations Carol and best wishes for your upcoming Captaincy.
We were also able to celebrate Peter and Tess's 23rd wedding anniversary. Congratulations to you both.
Interleague 2023
We entered 3 pairs for Finals Day which is played by all the Inter-League Clubs (22) at the O'Connor course in Amendoeira course this week. It was a great day, the course was in great nick, unfortunately our golf wasn't but it's what the inter league (not the bad golf) is all about and a good day was had by all. The competition was won by Tavira with a great team score of 128.
Single and Pairs Knock out competitions
We are now entering the final stages with Gary Dowie and Oliver Klatt playing their singles semi final on the 11th December and Michael Abbott and Janice Galloway on the 15th. Good luck to you all.
The Pairs has reached the final stages with Michael Abbott (a busy man) and David Meers to play Duncan Leopold and Foxy, again Good Luck.
Race to Budens
There is no change with Janice and Ian Galloway in 1st and 2nd place. Gary Dowie and Duane Wessels are making a late charge.
Course
Can I please remind everyone that when we are requested to keep to the buggy paths. It is for your safety. The rough is starting to grow quickly and unfortunately clover is growing even more quickly which means finding your ball if you haven't hit the fairway can be difficult. The rule is that you have 3 minutes to find your ball, if you are worried that you may have difficulty by not being on the fairway, please play a provisional. There have been a number of issues re slow play so please do keep up with the game in front.

Card Markers
Thanks again to our Card markers who as always do great work. Much appreciated.
Web Site
We have been working on a new website which will be easier to use and navigate. Small trials amongst some of the Committee have started and thanks to David Meers who is doing the hard work, and to Michael Abbott, Rod Smith and Ian Galloway for their inputs. We hope to be able to show progress to date and the look and feel early in the New Year.
Kind regards,
Duncan Leopold
